CHECKLIST FOR DRIVERS
For detailed information refer to 49 CFR Parts 397 (FMCSR) and 172 (HMR)
SHIPPING PAPERS:
· Hazardous materials must be listed first OR highlighted by color OR indicated by an "X" in an HM Column.
· Each description must show in order proper shipping name; hazard class and division number; hazard indentification number; quantity by weight/volume. Abbreviations are prohibited except for packaging type, quantity, or "Ltd. Qty." notation.
· Certification must be shown and signed by shipper manually or by mechanical means.
· An emergency response telephone number and emergency response information must be with the shipment.
OTHER DOCUMENTATION
· Written route plan for Division 1.1, 1.2, and 1.3 Explosives.
· A copy of the rules in 49 CFR Part 397.
· Procedures to follow in the event of an accident to include: name and telephone numbers of carrier representatives; nature of explosives; and precautions to be taken.
PLACARDS
· Provided by shipper for proper hazard class offered, unless already on unit.
· Represent hazard class (See table and special requirements).
· On 4 sides of vehicle. Front placard may be on power unit or cargo body. Wording must read horizontally, left to right. (Wording is optional)
· Unobstructed view, at least 3 inches from ther marking, lettering, or display. Multiple palcards must be near each other. Placards reflecting subsidiary risks must not display Hazard class/ Division number in bottom corner of placard.
· Must be changed if HM cargo changes, and removed if HM not on board.
